Big Muddy

Sugarfire Smoke House, St. Louis

This popular St. Louis-style barbecue restaurant, owned by chef and pitmaster Mike Johnson, with Charlie and Carolyn Downs, serves up this sandwich combining some of the best-selling items in one big bite – a potato bun comes loaded with a house-smoked jalapeño cheddar sausage link, smoked brisket, lettuce, pickles, and sweet and Alabama white barbecue sauces.

Elk Fry Bread

Javelina, Portland, Oregon

At Portland’s only indigenous restaurant, owners Alexa and Nick Numkena-Anderson serve housemade fry bread-based tacos and sandwiches, like this one with apple and onion-braised elk shoulder with Huckleberry barbecue sauce, arugula and pickled red onion.

Spicy Rigatoni Vodka Chicken Parm Sandwich

Elm Street Diner, Norwalk, Connecticut

The menu at John Mosher’s busy diner features many Instagramable dishes (that have gone viral) like loaded fries, enormous waffle towers for brunch, and loaded pasta sandwiches like this extra-large whopper – garlic bread piled with rigatoni dressed in vodka sauce, a chicken cutlet and plenty of mozzarella cheese.
