Salad Blend Storage and Handling
Storage and handling play an important role in the quality, flavor and presentation of salad blends. Follow the recommendations below for ideal storage and handling practices.
Storage
- Ideal storage temperatures: as close to 33°F as possible; in the blue zone of the cooler
- Relative humidity of 98–100%, with some air circulation
- Do not freeze; no direct contact with ice
- Do not store in dry storage areas
- Store away from ethylene gas-producing products like apples, grapes and berries
Handling
- Store under refrigeration in original packaging
- Do not place or store in airtight containers
- Salad mixes may be gently rinsed under cold water just prior to serving, to restore crispness
- Unused product should be kept in the specially designed bag until needed, for the maximum shelf life. Roll up or clip the opened bag and return to the cooler
- Bags are designed to allow the product to breathe
- Do not immerse or soak in water
